Biography
Michael Holden (born 1969 in San Francisco, CA) is an artist based in New York. Holden received his BA in Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) in 1993 with a Pat Maggiora Art Scholarship. Holden received his MFA from Boston University in 1996 with a Constantin Alajalov Scholarship. In 1996, Holden was the recipient of a Full-Fellowship to paint at the Vermont Studio Center and a grant there in 2000. UCSC professor Patrick Ahern gave Holden a stipend in 1998 to paint and study in Umbria, Italy. In 1999, Holden received commissions to paint in Lough Hyne, Ireland and in the South of France. Holden was awarded a Painting Fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation in 2000.
Holden has shown his work in group and solo exhibitions nationally (Arizona, California, Florida, Massachusetts, New York) and internationally (China and Sweden).
Holden founded Park Place Gallery in Brooklyn in 2017, where he is the director and curator.
